This ’67 Chevy II Nova SS was originally purchased in Pennsylvania as a special order by the original owner. The original owner ordered the car as a Chevy II Nova with the SS package, Posi-traction, a 10-bolt rear, and, by the customer’s unusual request, a 3-speed column shift. An original 118 SS indeed, with this desired shift feature. I initially thought about restoring the column shift and using it with the original 3-speed Muncie transmission, but opted to make the car the way I wanted it.

I aimed to keep it authentic without changing the overall look of the car. Over time, the car had gone through several transitions. A half-baked roll cage was added years ago, which looked absolutely shade-tree, to say the least. The car was in rough shape.

I purchased the car from the last owner, who was located in Maryland. He had bought the car from the original owner. The car came with the body completed on a rotisserie, in primer, and absolutely bare. Most of the obvious components, such as the sub-frame steering linkage, were powder-coated. For the most part, everything was there with the deal. The last owner simply didn’t want to finish the car, so I bought it and brought it home to start the project.

After I got the car home, I began to realize there were several high-dollar, rare items that still needed to be purchased to complete the car, most importantly, the way I wanted it. Some parts were new, and some were truly difficult to find. I had restored several cars in the past, but since I had no idea what it would take to restore a Chevy II Nova, much less assemble one from scratch, my adventure in 2011 truly began.

Not having disassembled the car to begin with, and not knowing much about Gen 2 Novas, the restoration was not just a task but also a learning experience. Thanks to Joe Junior for the help along the way, that’s for sure. That adventure began in 2011 and the Nova was finished in 2023 after several iterations and changes that simply had to be made.

From installing a 4-speed with a 3:73 rear gear, which was surely a bad combination, to changing from manual to power steering after I thought the car was completed. It simply wasn’t. The changes listed below are the final product. The 1967 Chevy II SS Nova has been brought back to an original appearance that I am truly proud of, with several required modifications.
