Description

NOVA NOTE:
Caution: Always use proper tools and safety glasses. Novas have a bad habit of loosing their front-end alignment simply because the lower control arms can & will move on their own.
This kit eliminates the lower control arm eccentric sand will lock the lower control arm into place.
The alignment procedure will be changed to a shimmed camber adjustment on the upper control arm.

1. Remove front shocks
2. Remove front coil springs
3. Separate upper ball joint from spindle
4. Remove upper control arm
5. The bolts in the upper control arm pivot which go through the inner fender must be pressed out – Preferably in a pneumatic or hydraulic press – use no heat – these bolts are tapered and have splines; that is the reason a press must be used.
6. Drill out the holes in the upper control arm pivot to ½” diameter in preparation for the new larger diameter bolts supplied with the lock out kit.
7. Install the new bolts into the upper control arm pivot and tack weld these in to keep them from rotating while turning the nut on the engine compartment side.
8. Drill out the inner fender holes (where the upper control arm bolts in) to ½” diameter.
9. Install the upper control arm with cone lock nuts supplied with the kit and reattach upper ball joint to spindle.
10. Remove the lower control arm eccentric bolts & nuts – install the square plates and new bolts (the square plates must fit between the ears).
The square plates can be rotated to change the lower control arm position.

SHIMS ARE TO BE USED ON THE UPPER CONTROL ARM FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT IN THE CONVENTIONAL PROCEDURE TO SET CAMBER.

USE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF SHIMS AT THE TOP WHEN ALIGNING; THIS WILL MAKE FOR A MORE SOLID SUSPENSION.

USE ALL CORRECT TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS WHEN RE-ASSEMBLING YOUR FRONT END.

PROPER ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS A DAY ON OUR WEB SITE

THE LOCK OUT KIT CONVERTS YOUR 62-67 NOVA TO AN UPPER SHIM ALIGNMENT (MOST LATE MODEL CARS ARE LIKE THIS) THIS KIT IS BEST INSTALLED WHEN THE FRONT END IS APART.

62-67 Nova Alignment Specifications

1/4 degrees positive camber both sides
1 to 1 1/2 positive caster, no more than 1/4 degree difference side to side
Set toe to “0” or 1/64 out

It may take 2 hours to get the above spec but you must adhere to it to make it right!

Other Nova Front End Problems

1. Make sure your Nova has the 2 spacer washers on either side of the lower control arm bushing. all original bushings have these. There are generic bushings on the market that are sold without these, make sure they are there!

2.The adjustable eccentrics on the lower control arms like to move a lot. Any slight movement of these and you have lost you front end specs and will start to wear tires etc.

The cure for this is our “Lock Out Kit” PT# 25037

This converts your front end to an upper shim alignment like a late model car.

3. The 63-67 Novas had poor idler arm design. The rubber bushings only last about 6 months. Then your tires start to wear and you need an alignment and so on.

The cure for this is our “Idler Arm Bearing Conversion Kit” PT# 24023

This is a more permanent fix and will last a life time.

UPPER & LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS
After installation of upper & lower control arm bushings make sure the weight of the car is on the front end before you tighten them down
